The SIT School Forum brings students and staff together to share perspectives and reflect on the student experience within the School. This year’s forum focused on belonging, collaboration, and employability, drawing on insights from engagement workshops entitled Our Place in SIT and delivered across the Glasgow and Highlands campuses. These workshops were organised by SIT School Officers — students employed to co‑develop enhancement projects at the Glasgow School of Art — centring on students’ experiences of learning and community within SIT, with a particular focus on employability.

As part of the project that informed the School Forum, School Officers invited students to reflect on their journeys through SIT: what they brought in when they joined the school, what they are learning, and how they see themselves developing into the future. These reflections were captured through co-created fabric banners, which were shared during the forum as touchpoints to broader conversations about the student experience. At the Forum, these fabric outputs supported open, inclusive dialogue between students and staff, exploring how different programmes support the development of varied identities and skillsets, highlighting the value of learning across disciplines. Students reflected on the importance of observing others’ approaches, engaging with external partners, and taking part in structured collaborative projects with peers and practitioners. The forum also examined how shared learning between students and staff is nurtured across informal spaces, studio environments, electives, and collaborative initiatives; contributing to both a sense of belonging and future career readiness.

Key themes included navigating uncertainty, engaging with diverse practices and perspectives, and the importance of creative bravery. Together, these reflections underline the role of community in supporting a connected, confident, and collaborative SIT.
