My English is not very good – can I still come?
We have a minimum IELTS requirement of 6.5 overall (with at least 6.0 in each component). If you are near that, we offer summer programmes in Glasgow (www.gsa.ac.uk/study/foundation-portfolio/english-for-creative-disciplines/) that may help you improve quickly to the right level.

We invite organisations to work with you on ‘live briefs’. These give you the experience of working with a real client and stakeholder groups in a controlled, educational environment.

It is advantageous to have a working knowledge of the Adobe suite, such as Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop and a CAD software package such as Rhino or Fusion 360.

The Programme is full time and studio based. Whilst we appreciate that Students often have to work to support their studies, there is a requirement to attend all teaching points and to work in the studio independently outside of staff contact periods.

Students have access to all workshops across the campus. The workshops at GSA offer a range of provision with access to expertise from trained technical staff.

There is an opportunity to work across disciplines in year 1, through two courses that operate collaboratively across all 5 schools at GSA.

There are two formal points of assessment , one in semester 1 and one in semester 2. You will receive formative feedback continuously throughout the academic year at tutorial and review points.

Staff contact varies across year group and project. You are likely to have contact with a tutor through a review, presentation or workshop on average a day a week.

Students joining BDES/MEDes Product Design have two routes to exchange opportunities. In the second year students can apply for the MEDes (Masters in European Design) pathway or a BDes semester exchange.

Many of our students take up internship/work placement opportunities. These are not part of the taught curriculum but students generally arrange them independently with support from the staff team who have many connections to design companies and organisations.

Text LinkWhat kind of jobs do students get upon graduation?
Product Design graduates go on to work in a variety of different roles for a diverse range of employers and organisations, including the NHS, Google and Facebook, as an example. Others continue into further study or set up their own companies.

We have an excellent track record when it comes to student success after graduation. Graduates go on to work in large organisations such as the Scottish Government, RBS, Philips, Microsoft, and IBM (to name just a few).

We have a range of full-time and part-time staff from a variety of backgrounds from graphic design, product design, computing, textiles… many staff have PhDs and/or significant industry experience. And all are committed educators.

The M.Res is not a taught programme but it combines tailored research training delivered in Seasonal Schools to support students in developing research methods, constructing a literature review, ethical procedures and practices, planning for fieldwork and participation and modes of analysis.
