The use of touchscreens in public spaces is increasing. However, because public touchscreens vary in terms of size and operating system (operating logic), most do not have a function like the iPhone’s VoiceOver mode to assist the visually impaired. i-FINGER is a wearable intelligent product designed to help visually impaired people quickly access information from a variety of different public touchscreens, thereby Improving their experience and independence in public spaces.

Design Innovation and Service Design graduate Zhenyang Yan and collaborators, Xiaofang Li (MEng Product Design Engineering), Shiqi Zeng (Design Innovation and Interaction Design) and Hongjie Guo (MEng Product Design Engineering) have been awarded the 2021 iF Design Talent Award for their project ‘i-finger’, An assistive wearable device designed to help visually impaired people quickly access information from a variety of different public touchscreens, thereby Improving their experience and independence in public spaces.
