Dolby Atmos Studio

Our professional dubbing studios support a comprehensive range of mixing formats, from standard stereo and 5.1 surround through to Dolby Atmos and Ambisonics. These spaces are fully networked, providing seamless access to a dedicated Foley recording room and a separate voiceover booth. The studios are built around industry-standard Avid hardware running Pro Tools Ultimate, complete with a massive suite of professional plug-ins. For those pushing the boundaries of spatial audio, our Ambisonics suite opens up experimental and interactive possibilities with direct access to Max, Supercollider, and Unity for VR integration. Additionally, all Sound for the Moving Image (SfMI) classrooms are equipped with powerful Mac Studio workstations, fully licensed for Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live, and Max.

Beyond the studio spaces, MDes SfMI students have access to an extensive inventory of specialist equipment through the Media Studio and equipment store at our West Regent Street campus. This includes professional-grade portable rigs for location recording and filming, a broad selection of specialist microphones, lighting kits, and MIDI controllers. To ensure smooth project workflows, equipment is bookable online five days a week year-round. Thorough studio inductions are provided for all facilities, and one-to-one technical support is readily available throughout the week to assist with complex setups.

Glasgow Library of Synthesised Sound

As a unique extension of the campus facilities, students also receive membership to the Glasgow Library of Synthesised Sounds (GLOSS)β€”the UK's first non-profit electronic music library. This membership offers hands-on access to an extensive collection of rare and modern hardware synthesisers, alongside workshops and live events. Introduced as part of the taught programme, the GLOSS space is available for use across assignments, serving as a vital gateway into Glasgow's vibrant electronic and experimental music community.
