The Constellation of Opportunities

Last year GSA Highlands & Islands campus launched The Constellation of Opportunities, a pilot project aiming to enhance the connection between Learning and Teaching, Research, and Impact. The project promotes faculty and researchers to offer a framework for students to develop their MDesDesign Innovation Masters Research Project in a strong field, with cutting edge approaches and methods, and with relevant companies, institutions, communities, and research centres….

In this edition, a wide range of stakeholders as BMW OpenInnovation Department (Germany), GSA Archives&Collections, DigitalHealth&Care Innovation Centre (DHI) or EU funded project Pacesetter and Genalguacil Pueblo Museo (Spain) encouraged students to reflect on the ethical, social and environmental challenges we are facing as people and planet, and to explore the role of design-led innovation to face them.

The project brought consistency to the students’ framing of the context, design process, and final outcomes; continuity to the school’s research and impact threads; and quality and relevance to the interactions with external stakeholders. The excellent results were exhibited at the GSA PGTFinal event and Symposium in Glasgow, where students presented their projects and future aims to a diverse audience.

As part of a place-based and research-led learning experience led at the Highlands & Islands campus, the Constellation of Opportunities expands the potential of education institutions as agents of change.
