The MSc offers students the transferable skills to design, develop and apply games and simulations for a range of application areas and to conduct interdisciplinary research in the serious applications of games and immersive technologies.
The year is split across three semesters, running from September through to August – two taught semesters and a summer semester dedicated to independent research projects.
In semester 1 students work on projects for 3D Modelling, Interactive Visualisation and Serious Game Design & Research, while the Academic Skills for Masters Research class provides necessary academic underpinning for conducting your own independent research in later projects.
Semester 2 includes a group project in Game Development, where each group is able to set their own project goals and aspirations (with opportunity for collaboration with students from our Sound for Moving Image programme). You will also learn how to create your own VR and AR applications, and be able to choose a third class from the post-graduate elective courses offered across the institution.
The final semester is dedicated to a self-directed project in your own chosen topic. Previous projects have covered a wide range of aspects of game design, storytelling, and applications of games and virtual reality.
