Discover untold stories of ordinary people living during the British Empire and experience their stories in augmented reality, at Empire Retold - an exhibition at The University of Glasgow ARC for the Being Human Festival, November 6th-15th. Details here.

In 1938, a huge British Empire Exhibition took place in Bellahouston Park,Glasgow. This was the last Empire Exhibition and an important but less well-known part of British history. 'Empire Retold' showcases new researchabout this 1938 event, and you are invited to explore the impact of colonialism and the legacies left by the British Empire in Glasgow, and hear the voices of marginalised peoples.

Information displays and interactive and playful card decks present different opinions and perspectives side by side, highlighting forgotten histories and stories of how people understood each other across cultures. We aim to give a rounded and representative view of British heritage, change perceptions of Glasgow’s history, and reveal the relevance of early 20th century history to our lives today. The exhibition is accompanied by an Augmented Reality mobile app “Empire Retold: Bellahouston AR” which allows both critical and playful re-readings of history, on site in Bellahouston Park.

You can drop in to the exhibition at any time during opening hours, 9am-7.30pm Monday to Saturday.
