The Innovation School was commissioned to design and deliver a series of iterative co-design workshops, to identify, develop and test possible solutions and improvements to increase the level of offsite construction in Scotland. The project brought together perspectives from across the construction sector, from procurement to building, from Local Authorities,Housing association, developer and manufacturers, to explore the innovation challenges and opportunities around offsite construction through the practice of co-design.
Offsite construction has been identified as a key element of improving the construction sector’s productivity as well as driving improvements in housing quality, speed of delivery and image of the sector. TheScottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and Construction Scotland InnovationCentre partnered together to investigate increasing offsite construction in housing, specifically in the affordable housing sector. This significant project aims to provide recommendations to the Government and the wider sector to help influence policy for the future. This includes ensuring that the investment is leveraging the maximum wider benefits in terms of the economy, environment and social objectives.
Co-designing Solutions helped bring public, private andacademic partners together to generate recommendations to improve offsite construction processes and enable wider adoption in Scotland.
