‘LED’ proposed a novel device to use LED lighting to convey position information, or ‘track’ people living with dementia indoors in order to trigger help if required. This project was proposed by Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), and accepted by the DHI in 2015.
The findings of the Experience Labs provide insights on the potential use of an indoor tracking system for people living with dementia, as well as the requirements for using it in daily life. The resulting findings show a preferred role for informal carers in responding to alerts about behaviour recognised by the system, and identified a potential benefit of making captured data accessible to the person living with dementia and their loved ones to support positive and motivational use of the insights gathered.
