The School ofInnovation and Technology has a distinctive specialist research culture, which is widely recognised internationally. Doctoral study at SIT provides an opportunity for further research into a wide range of topics related to design-led innovation. Our practice-based research culture supports candidates as they seek to generate new knowledge and understanding through creative practice, scholarship and criticism. 

Our PhD research degree is offered as either a full-time (3 years) or part-time (6 years) programme.Participants can choose to combine the submission of a written thesis with a portfolio or opt for evaluation by textual thesis only. The programme is supervised by a primary supervisor from GSA and up to two additional co-supervisors fromGSA and our network of partner institutions.

Collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange are central to our intellectually ambitious vision. Our PhD candidates benefit from opportunities to interact with experts in topics ranging from sociology to psychology and engineering. Your research may also overlap with one of SIT’s pioneering postgraduate programmes, which include Interaction Design,Environmental Design and Transformation Design.
